Glasgow City Council has issued an important reminder for visitors to one of its most popular family-friendly attractions today after a child was 'nipped' on the finger by a pony.

Parents and guardians have been warned that adults should keep a close eye on youngsters and under no circumstances allow them to touch or feed the animals while enjoying a day out at the Tollcross Children's Farm and Visitor Centre in the city's East End.

The statement comes after community group No1seems2care reported that a young boy had yesterday been "injured" by an animal and taken to hospital as a result.

A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council later confirmed the incident saying: “Our on-site first aider went to the aid of a family when a child’s finger was nipped by a pony yesterday.

"We understand this was upsetting for the family and are glad the youngster is on the mend.

“We remind visitors to the city farm not to touch or feed the animals as instructed on warning signs prominently displayed around the site and to always keep fingers out of the enclosures.

"Adults are asked to closely supervise children at all times when visiting the attraction.”

It is understood that a number of children who witnessed the commotion suffered a "fright" but that the boy did not sustain any serious injuries.
