A COUPLE have made the "difficult and emotional" decision to close their store after 38 years.

East Kilbride couple William and Doreen Coysh, who opened Kids Plus back in 1985, have decided to close their doors this weekend.

The pair decided to open a baby and children’s clothing store after returning from Spain as "ambitious" 20 and 21-year-olds.

Now, the couple who are 58 and 57 years old respectively, have decided to leave the retail business, and enjoy a fulfilling retirement with their three daughters.

Glasgow Times:

Speaking to the Glasgow Times, William said: "Deciding to close the shop has been a really difficult and emotional decision.

"The shop has been an amazing place and we consider it a real pleasure and privilege to have been able to serve so many wonderful people.

"We don't see them as customers, but rather friends that we will really miss."

Glasgow Times:

The shop will officially close its doors on Saturday, March 4 at 3pm.

The pair announced the closure via Facebook on February 21.

They wrote: "It was 1985 when Doreen and I opened our first business together at Kids Plus.

"Thirty-eight years later we have, with mixed emotions, decided to retire.

"We would like to thank all of our customers, past and present and would love to say thanks and goodbye personally to everyone who has supported us."

After publishing the news, the pair have received nothing but support.

William said: "The public has been truly amazing.

"We have received so many cards, flowers and gifts, which we are so grateful for and truly humbled by."

Glasgow Times:

William and Doreen will be hosting some light refreshments on Saturday to "express their gratitude at the continued support throughout the years".

After the official closure, the pair already have some plans in the work.

Doreen is planning to get involved in nursing; something she has always wanted to do, and William aims to undertake some volunteer work "to give a little back to those who have made him feel like one of their own" since opening the store.

However, the pair do plan to rest and reset over the next six months and have no plans as of yet to open another store.

The store will be marketed to any realistic offer later this month.

The store can be found at 1021 Shettleston Road in the city's East End.
