Two people have been rushed to hospital following a major crash near Glasgow.

The accident occurred on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 8 around 12.25pm.

Traffic has halted on the A725 between Belziehill and Bellshill following the collision.

Four ambulances and a trauma team raced to the scene.

One person was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

A second was taken to Wishaw General.

The condition of the two casualties is unknown.

The number of cars involved in the collision has yet to be disclosed.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call today at 12.29pm to attend a road traffic collision.

"We dispatched four ambulances to the scene and our trauma team.

"We transferred two patients to hospital, one to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and one to Wishaw General.”

Traffic Scotland shared the news on Twitter.

They wrote: "Update at 2.01pm.

"The A725 is currently CLOSED Southbound between Belziehill and Bellshill due to a serious collision.

"Police are on scene.

"Traffic is stationary on approach."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 12.25pm on Wednesday, 8 March, police were called to a report of a road crash on the A725 at Bellshill.

"Police are currently at the scene."

It is the second time on Wednesday that an accident impacted traffic on the A725 near Bellshill.
