GLASWEGIANS shared their thoughts on the city's newest bridge ahead of its opening.

The Sighthill Bridge, which connects North Glasgow with the city centre, was visited by council leader Susan Aitken and business minister Ivan McKee yesterday.

It is not yet confirmed when the bridge will open to the public.

Glasgow Times photographer Gordon Terris also went along to capture the new structure.

Here is what our readers thought of it.

In response to our poll asking about the design, almost 200 people shared their thoughts.

Glasgow Times:

Nearly half, 44%, voted that the design "looks terrible", while 38% said they like the bridge.

A further 14% believe it is "nothing special" and 4% of voters are impartial towards it.

In the comments section, people were also divided.

Many criticised the colour of the structure.

One person said: "I don’t think this structure is something to be proud of at all. It’s a terrible eyesore."

Another added: "Lovely design but looks like it’s been made from a heap of auld, rusty scrap metal."

A third responded: "You're kidding me on. Leaving it like this!"

A fourth user joked: "Wee lick of Hammerite and it will be as good as new!"

Others expressed that they enjoyed the new landmark.

One Glaswegian said: "Love it! It will be another beloved Glasgow icon. The corten steel gives a rusty look evocative of Glasgow's past in steel making and shipbuilding."

A second reply read: "I might be the only person in Glasgow that loves this bridge."

A third commented: "It’s wonderful, never heed the naysayers."
