Tommy Sheridan has confirmed the details of the funeral for his late mother after her death in a fire.

Alice Sheridan passed away following the accidental fire at her flat in Cardonald on March 12.

Now former politician Tommy has revealed the plans for her funeral service, at which anyone is welcome to pay their respects.

Glasgow Times:

Carried in a hearse pulled by white horses and red plumes as requested by her, Alice will leave from Invergyle Drive in Cardonald at 9.15am on Tuesday, March 28.

The service will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel on Lourdes Avenue, Glasgow for a requiem at 10am.

After the mass Alice will be carried to the Hurlet Crematorium on Glasgow Road for a family service and eulogy from 12pm.

Glasgow Times:

Tommy has stressed that colours should be worn instead of black ties, as Alice wanted her funeral to be "a celebration of life, not a dark and sad affair".

Since the news of her passing, tributes have poured in for the 84-year-old, who was described as someone who ‘fought injustice all her life’ in helping people unionise and get better wages.

She was also praised for her ‘pioneering work’ with both child and adult victims of sexual abuse.

Glasgow Times:

In a heartfelt statement issued on social media, Sheridan said: “My two sisters and our respective families wish to put on record our deepest gratitude to the thousands of you who have taken the time and made the effort to send cards, flowers and social media messages of condolences in respect of our mum’s sad death from an accidental house fire on Sunday, March 12.

“We have been literally overwhelmed by the warmth and kindness we have received from all across Scotland and further afield. We want to thank you from the bottom of our broken hearts for your acts of human solidarity which have raised our spirits and inspired us at a difficult time. Alice was clearly a much loved and well-respected woman.”

Sheridan also thanked his mother’s dedicated carers over the years, as well as the fire crews, paramedics and police officers for their support after the tragic event.
