THE family behind a beloved Celtic pub in Glasgow are preparing to step away from the business after 23 years.

Confirming the news on social media today a member of the team at the Tavern Bar on Tollcross Road, which is run by the Gallagher family, took the opportunity to thank customers for their support across more than two decades.

The post read: "So, this time we know there's no going back.

"Twenty-three years spent making the wee Tavern a favourite pub for many. A pub like no other it definitely has been.

"We are now entering our last seven weeks of having this amazing pub in our family.

"We want to thank everyone and even more especially to the Tavern faithful who have supported this wee local over what has been its final year.

"We wouldn't have made it through what has been another tough year without your support and there have been plenty more laughs to add to the memories too."

It is understood that the current team's final shift at the Tavern Bar will be on Tuesday, May 30 with no confirmation yet as to if, or when, a new owner will take over the spot.

Messages of support have since been flooding in with one person saying: "Many a great day/night in there.

"Great wee pub run by the best people, all the best to all."

Another added: "Thanks for many happy days hope to see you soon."

A third said: "It's been an absolute pleasure spending time in this great pub."
