A GLASGOW community is in shock after a man died this morning.

Residents of Springburn expressed their worry after they woke up to a police cordon on Petershill Road.

What happened in Glasgow's Petershill Road?

 

Officers swarmed the scene after a man died and another was taken to hospital.

Around a dozen uniformed officers were seen speaking to people, diverting traffic and guarding the taped-off area.

Forensics arrived around 11.30am and marked evidence on several roads nearby.

What are the residents saying after Petershill Road incident?

 

One local said: "Police turned up around 6am, I saw them when I looked out.

"There weren't any sirens really, I just noticed because I was already awake.

"Nothing like this ever happens here."

Another resident said: "When I woke up this morning, around 8am, the police were already here.

"I have lived here for four years, incidents do happen but nothing this big."

A third citizen added: "When I came down this morning to the chemist, they wouldn't let me go through, I spoke with a police officer who said the cordon would be up until Monday."

Nearby Barony Medical Centre cancelled all appointments for the day and sent the update in a text message to patients. 

The practice said the situation is "unlikely to change before Monday".

Police Scotland did not reveal any details of the nature of the incident at this time.

A force spokesperson said: “We received a report of concern for two men on Auchinloch Street, Glasgow, around 5.25am on Friday, April 14.

“One man was pronounced dead at the scene and one man was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary Hospital for treatment.

“Enquiries ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“A number of road closures are in place, including Springburn Road, Turner Road, Petershill Road and Laverockhall Street.

"Drivers are asked to avoid the area.”
