PLANS have been brought forward for a storage facility for caravans, campervans and other motorhomes in Renfrew.

The proposed site, which is currently vacant, is located just off West Lodge Road – not far from Blythswood Retail Park.

Applicant Ewan Mackay, who is also the owner of Mac Storage in nearby Argyll Avenue, is hoping planning permission will be given so the land can be used as a storage plot with fencing, gates and other associated works.

He said: “I hope the council is supportive of the facility we are trying to create.

“The facility would concentrate on caravans and motorhomes and cater for Renfrewshire and the wider Glasgow community.

“I want to provide a facility that assists the community and creates employment for people going forward.”

North Planning Development, the agent company for the application, said in a submitted statement: “Planning permission is sought for the formation of a class six storage facility, with the expectation being that it will predominantly be used for storage of caravans, campervans and similar.

“The built works will consist of erection of fencing and vehicle and pedestrian gates around the site boundary.

“Existing trees adjacent to the western boundary of the site are outwith the application site and will be unaffected by the proposals.

“The site will be accessed from West Lodge Road by way of a main secure vehicle and pedestrian access, with recessed electronic sliding gates.

“The site will incorporate necessary drainage measures and vehicle routing around the site will be one way and signed accordingly.”

The proposals would include the redevelopment of a brownfield site and aim to have “positive benefits” for local supply chains and services, according to the document.

It also said the venture will “create and support” jobs, as well as the “development and growth of a storage facility which is available for use by members of the public.”

Renfrewshire Council has not yet made a decision on the application.
