A HOTEL guest struck an employee with a hand sanitiser stand after a noise row.

Aiden Staniard, 19, attacked Daniel Ward at a Premier Inn near Glasgow city centre on May 17, 2022.

Staniard and friends were told to leave their room after playing music into the early hours of the morning.

Staniard later swung the stand at Mr Ward - causing a bleeding ear.

The teenager pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Mr Ward to his injury.

The court heard that Mr Ward visited Staniard's room around 2.45am due to "excessive noise."

An argument took place and the occupants were told to leave the hotel.

Staniard knocked items to the ground in the foyer area before Mr Ward shouted for them to leave and not come back.

Prosecutor Gemma Barclay said: "At this time, Staniard picked up a metal hand sanitiser stand of approximately two metres and swung it towards Mr Ward.

"This made contact with his head which caused a cut to his left ear which was bleeding."

A scuffle then took place between them before Staniard was arrested.

Liam Runciman, defending, told the court that his client accepts full responsibility for the offence.

He added: "Mr Staniard makes no attempt to minimise his actions.

"He appeared remorseful and this is his first conviction.

"Mr Staniard knows he is lucky that the injury was not more serious."

Sheriff Bernard Abblett ordered the college student, of Uddingston, South Lanarkshire, to do 54 hours of unpaid work.
