Officers in Glasgow have been warning drivers to take care when passing cyclists on the road.

Cops said on Twitter: "Officers from Road Policing Glasgow were engaged in operation close pass this morning in Glasgow.

"A number of drivers were spoken to regarding their road position whilst passing cyclists.

"In addition, one cyclist was warned regarding the neglect of traffic signals."

This comes shortly after changes were made to the Highway Code, asking motorists to take extra 'considerate' precautions.

The new rules include:

  • cyclists have priority over cars when cars turning
  • pedestrians have priority over cars at junctions
  • changes to cyclist positioning to ensure better visibility.
