Glasgow City Council has responded after a West End road was resurfaced around a parked van.

Beaconsfield Drive was resurfaced on June 18, but residents were quick to notice the job was only partially done due to the lingering van.

The van, which belongs to the "facility support services company" ISS, had allegedly been parked there for several days and those responsible for the vehicle were incommunicado.

The Glasgow Times understands that the council did not move the van due to safety reasons.

The council claims they will be back to the area to finish the job. Meanwhile, ISS launched an investigation into why their van was left on the road.

The driver of the van responded on Wednesday that he was in fact a resident of the area but had been on holiday while the work was being carried out.

He said: "I'm a resident of this area and parked my vehicle on the street as normal.

"I don't use the vehicle outwith company working hours and had parked up Friday night (a public street) ... Monday I was on a personal holiday, and I had no prior warning of works being carried out.

"When I attended the van to return to work I had seen the works had been done and also the resurfacing was still being carried out."

A spokesperson for Glasgow City Council said: “Temporary road restrictions are often needed to allow a range of road maintenance tasks to be undertaken effectively and efficiently.

“Drivers who fail to observe these restrictions can delay or prevent essential maintenance from going ahead.

“In this instance, we tried to make contact with the company named on the van and also checked with local residents, but the vehicle remained parked at this location for several days.

“To make the most of staff time and minimise the disruption to local residents, we completed as much resurfacing work as possible at the time and will return to finish the job soon.”

An ISS UK & Ireland spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of reports about the parking of a company vehicle in Glasgow. We are investigating the circumstances and will take further steps as necessary.”
