The return of TRNSMT 2023 is only days away and over 50,000 people are expected to attend the sixth year of the Scottish music festival each day.

With newcomers and old favourites returning to the stages, here are 13 random facts about the different artists coming this year that you maybe didn’t know.

Pulp’s frontman Jarvis Cocker is no stranger to crazy antics and it seems he’s been this way his entire life.

For two months, he was wheelchair-bound at age 22 and the reason might shock you. While trying to impress a girl with his Spider-Man impression, he fell to the ground from a third-floor window.

Ashnikko

Bursting onto the music scene in 2019, Ashnikko has had a fast-paced rise to stardom. Fans who know her well might not be surprised to learn about some of the antics that happened during her school days. In an interview with Billboard, she revealed that when she was at school, she got suspended for writing a dirty poem about one of her teachers.

Mike Kerr

Lead singer of Royal Blood, Mike Kerr may surprise his dedicated listeners with a secret passion he’s had since he was 10 years old. He’s an amateur illusionist who can also do impressive card tricks. He also confessed to being obsessed with David Blaine, Penn & Teller and David Copperfield growing up.

George Ezra

Many musicians have had to work a series of odd jobs before they had their big break and the one that George Ezra had might come as a surprise. Speaking to the Guardian back in 2014, he revealed that when he left school at 16, he worked in a sweet factory and would steal jelly beans. But it all worked out for him, as within a year he got a record deal with Columbia Records UK.

As a former member of the iconic and popular boy band One Direction, Niall Horan’s life has been in the spotlight for over a decade. However, it may come as a surprise to his more casual fans that he was once a golf caddie for Rory McIlroy at the Par 3 Masters in 2015. Despite his lifelong passion for the sport, the singer instead made headlines for all the wrong reasons when he took a tumble on a golf course just before an interview.

After her 2021 TRNSMT debut, Becky Hill is one of this year’s most anticipated acts. People still might not know however is that out of her four older siblings, two of her sisters have the same first name. Both her sisters are called Claire and they regularly go out to her shows to support her.

Inhaler

An up-and-coming band from Dublin but did you know that Inhaler’s frontman Elijah Hewson is in fact the lead singer of U2, Bono’s son.

Sam Fender

Having always considered himself a storyteller, Sam Fender had a different way of expressing himself creatively before turning to music. The 29-year-old was previously trying to forge an acting career. Eagle eyed viewers may even have spotted him in an episode of North East detective show, Vera, when he was 15.

Matty Healy

Fans of The 1975’s lead singer, Matty Healy, are probably already aware that there’s no shortage of strange facts about the singer’s life. One fact about the indie musician is that he never wears deodorant. He even went as far to tell Radio 1 that his natural smell is similar to balsa wood.

Luke Pritchard

Most well-known for being the lead singer of the indie band The Kooks, Luke Pritchard will probably shock some people with information about his upbringing. The band may use the reggae and punk movements as inspiration, but he was actually educated at the prestigious Bedales boarding school. While there, he was also a classmate of British music icon, Lily Allen.

Maisie peters

With her upcoming TRNSMT debut, fans will be flocking to Glasgow Green to hear Maisie Peter’s set. Before attending big music festivals, she actually started her own book club on Instagram in 2020 and it currently has over 15,000 followers. She stated that her favourite books are The Great Gatsby, The Secret History and Memoirs of a Geisha.

Aitch

Before his rapping skills garnered him a record deal and multiple viral videos, Aitch had quite a different lifestyle than he does now. For a short period of time, he went to college after finishing school but decided to drop out. After making this decision, he then spent some time working alongside his grandfather in construction.

Paul Heaton

As a former member of both The Housemartins and The Beautiful South, Paul Heaton will be taking the TRNSMT stage as a solo artist. His fans might be surprised to know that he absolutely loves cycling and has even toured the UK on his bike. However, this was no normal tour, as he decided to cycle 2500 miles around the country to visit a series of village pubs.
