Charming Niall Horan used his TRNSMT debut to pay tribute to his friend Lewis Capaldi.

The smooth Irish star told fans in the Glasgow Green that the set would be shown on the BBC, and Capaldi would be watching at home.

He then urged the thousands of revellers to scream, “We love you, Lewis.”

Commenting on Capaldi’s break from music following his Glastonbury performance, Horan added: “He’s in Bathgate, and can hear us loud and clear. He’ll be back.”

Friendships aside, Horan was the perfect showman during his set which attracted huge crowds on Friday.

The chatty star even attempted a Scottish accent during his main stage performance and said the crowd was a ‘different league’.

The 29-year-old said: “Glasgow, how you feeling?

“Oh my God. Not that I didn’t know how good Scottish crowds are but this is a different league.

“I have never seen a whole nation up for it.”

Dropping his slick Irish tones, he then attempted to say in Scottish, “Youse are absolutely f*****g mental.”

And with that one attempt, he sent the crowd wild with a set featuring the best of his three solo albums.
