A Glasgow podcaster has revealed that his accent has held him back 'at times'.

During a discussion on Good Morning Britain about accents, Blethered podcast host Sean McDonald said that he feels he has been perceived in a certain way due to his strong Glaswegian accent.

He told hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley: "I think with the Scottish accent there's often a sort of immediate anticipation of imminent violence.

"Somebody thinks I want a fight, no I just want a flat white."

Susanna asked: "Has it held you back?"

He answered: "I think at times it has, I have missed out on opportunities - if it's a presenter thing, maybe you're a bit too Scottish for the audience.

"But in other times I have to say and I do accept it has gone in my favour because it's a unique selling point."

It comes after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer’s push for the use of correct grammar has ignited a backlash from a headteacher who says this may lead to children being judged on their accents.
