A Glasgow charity has been left in shock after its walls and windows were vandalised.

Glasgow Street Aid volunteers noticed yesterday that the main door and side walls of its city centre building have been graffitied over Monday night.

After examining the foul words that have been scribbled on the premises, staff reported the incident to Police Scotland.

Mostly, the group is in disbelief at the seemingly senseless act.

John Barclay, volunteer head of service said: "It's the first time this has happened.

"For myself, I volunteer here most days and I spend a lot of time cleaning the place, making sure the windows are tidy.

"So, this is quite heartbreaking, especially as we are here in a medical capacity to try and help people.

"For somebody to do this, is just heartbreaking.

"The others are worried about how are we going to pay for this to be fixed. The paintwork will need to be replaced.

"We will try and scrub the windows ourselves.

"The general consensus is that it's quite sad and a lot of people are wondering why it has happened.

"We don't have any enemies in Glasgow, we are here to help and we don't fall out with anybody."

The team of over 50 people work to support people with medical emergencies, intoxication, and mental health crises, as well as assisting the homeless population and missing youths all over the city.

Their biggest worry, however, is that the vandalism will discourage people from asking for help.

The 28-year-old added: "We are quite upset. It's mindless and disgusting and to have it next to a medical welfare facility might put people off coming and we don't want that."

In order to gather money to cover the graffiti, the charity launched a fundraiser.

John said: "We are hoping that a company will reach out or that we can raise enough money for the paint so we can do it ourselves.

"We are a really small charity and because we are quite unique, it's hard to find funding for medical and welfare purposes.

"We have to really try specialised funding.

"We just hope that the public can rally around us and support us."

"Enquiries are ongoing."
