An employee has been attacked in an attempted robbery of a shop.

The incident occurred at a store on Woodside Street in Coatbridge on Tuesday, July 18.

A male youth entered the shop at around 9.20pm and assaulted the staff member.

They were not injured but cops have since launched a manhunt to track down the perpetrator. 

He is described as being aged around 18 to 20 years old, around 5ft 5in tall and of slim build.

At the time of the offence, he was dressed in a black jumper and grey and black shorts. 

Detective Constable Lisa McMullen said: “Fortunately no one was injured and our enquiries are ongoing to trace the youth responsible for this unprovoked assault.

“Anyone who saw what happened is asked to get in touch and I am also appealing to those driving in the area at the time who may have dash-cam footage that could assist our investigation to make contact with us.”
