A driver was captured in an aerial shot fleeing their vehicle during a police 'chase'.

The man, who was driving a white Transit van, allegedly became the subject of a police pursuit after cops tried to stop him in Wishaw on Saturday morning.

Road cops were assisted by the force's air unit in tracing the driver when they left the vehicle in the East Kilbride area.

The accused was tracked down on foot after a police helicopter detected him.

He is due to appear in court in connection with multiple alleged offences.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland Air Unit said: "The police helicopter assisted yesterday with a lengthy vehicle pursuit from Wishaw to East Kilbride.

"The driver was successfully detained after an abandon and a short foot chase.

"A great piece of coordination between the crew and ground personnel."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Around 10am on Saturday, August 19, 2023, police attempted to stop a Ford Transit van in the Glasgow Road area of Wishaw, in connection with a number of road traffic offences.

“The vehicle was traced a short time later in East Kilbride, where a short foot pursuit took place with the male driver.

"He was arrested and charged in connection with a number of offences, and is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, August 21, 2023.”
