DOZENS of flights in and out of Glasgow have been cancelled today.

Passengers have been left stranded at home and abroad as an air traffic control failure has hit the UK.

Flights from Glasgow Airport to the likes of Faro, Dublin, Amsterdam and Malaga have been cancelled, while flights from London, Southampton and Belfast into the city have also been axed.

Following the disruption, unhappy passengers have taken to social media to vent their frustrations.

One person wrote: "Currently sitting in Amsterdam airport…flight to Glasgow was meant to depart at 1.45pm.

"I understand there is an issue with UK air traffic control but there is absolutely no information."

Another traveller said: "easyJet what is going on?

"Bristol to Glasgow 11.25am flight – initially passengers boarding plane told to go and get some refreshments due to six-hour delay, then the plane takes off leaving 20 or so passengers behind? Are 20 people allegedly missing the announcement?"

However, it was not just easyJet passengers that have been left disgruntled.

One person tweeted: "Aer Lingus, What’s happening with EI3227 to Dublin from Glasgow?

"App hasn’t updated. When have you rebooked for? We are at the airport and we can't get through security as it’s cancelled.

"No, I can’t ring due to high demand and we are stranded.

"Please help."

BBC presenter Gabby Logan was also caught up in the delays.

She wrote: "On a plane on the runway at Budapest airport. After almost three weeks away from home I am hours from hugging my family.

"And have just been told UK airspace is shut. We could be here for 12 hours. So we sit on the plane and wait."

 Glasgow Times:

The cancellations come after we previously reported that Glasgow airline Loganair warned customers this morning that flights may be subject to delays due to a network-wide failure.

Since then, National Air Traffic Services (NATS), which provides air traffic control services in the UK, said: "We are currently experiencing a technical issue and have applied traffic flow restrictions to maintain safety."

A spokesman for AGS Airports added: "Air traffic control provider NATS is currently experiencing a technical issue across its UK-wide airspace network.

“It is anticipated that services operating to and from our airports will be impacted.

“We would ask passengers to check with their individual airlines for updates."
