FOUR former Glasgow Police officers who died while on duty have been added to the “Roll of Honour” this year.

It comes after senior cops along with family, friends and colleagues attended an annual memorial event to remember all those who passed away while in uniform.

The Scottish Police Memorial Trust’s Service of Remembrance took place at Police Scotland’s Headquarters on Wednesday, September 6.

As part of it, three officers from the City of Glasgow Police – Constable Donald McIntrye who died in 1870, Constable Francis Noble who passed away in 1874, and Constable Thomas Shields who died in 1913 were added to the honour list, which commemorates the life and service of officers who have died on duty since 1812.

Constable Thomas Steel Grant from Glasgow & South-Western Railway Police who died in 1906 was also added.

Co-founder of the Scottish Police Memorial Trust, Christine Fulton MBE, whose husband PC Lewis Fulton was killed on duty in Glasgow in 1994, said: “The annual service of remembrance is a very poignant event, as it allows us to reconnect with old friends and colleagues and reflect on those we lost in the line of duty.

“Since last year, nine new names have been added to the memorial and I am sure the families of these officers welcome the opportunity to see their loved ones immortalised on the Roll of Honour, so they can be celebrated by the policing family for years to come.”

Deputy Chief Constable Designate, Fiona Taylor, QPM, said: “The annual service has become an essential day in the policing calendar since the memorial was established in 2004.

Glasgow Times:

“This is an important day of reflection and friendship for the policing family in Scotland and beyond.

“We know policing is not simply a job, but a calling. Not what we do, but who we are.

“Today, together, we honour and remember family, friends and colleagues who have died while discharging those duties in Scotland.”

Wraiths were laid by Deputy Chief Constable Designate Fiona Taylor, QPM Cabinet Secretary for Justice and Home Affairs, Angela Constance, and the Lord Lieutenant of Fife, as well as on behalf of the Scottish Police Memorial Trust, British Transport Police, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland, the Scottish Police Authority, the Scottish Police Federation, the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents, and the Retired Police Officers Association Scotland.
