A Paisley cop is running from Glasgow to Edinburgh as a thank you to the people who paid towards his father's funeral costs.
David Kyle, who now lives in Motherwell, is a serving Police Scotland officer who dedicates his life to helping the public as well as looking after his wife Nikki and their two young children.
The 37-year-old gets his protective nature from his late father Andy, who was in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and saw action in Northern Ireland, Aden and Cyprus.
After Andy died after a battle with cancer several years ago, his funeral costs were supported by an armed forces charity, SSAFA - to whom David now wants to give something back.
The self-confessed fitness enthusiast is running the 56-mile distance on October 7 in an 'ultramarathon' to raise funds for the charity.
He said: “I’m raising money for SSAFA as it helped with Dad's funeral costs when he died of cancer a few years ago.
"SSAFA also helped to contact other members of the Argylls who attended Dad's funeral which was nice to see, and I just want to give something back to SSAFA for being there during the hardest emotional time of my life."
Before joining the force, David was a personal trainer and gym instructor and still sees running as his favourite hobby.
He really got into pushing himself physically into taking on big marathons after watching an episode of SAS: Who Dares Wins that featured the “Fan Dance”, the 15-mile fitness and navigation element of the UK Special Forces selection process through the Bannau Brycheiniog (formerly the Brecon Beacons).
He added: "Nothing clears my head, helps me deal with life's stresses, or levels me out better than a good run."
The event starts at 6am on Saturday, October 7 at Glasgow’s Riverside Museum and ends at Saughton Sports Complex in Edinburgh.
With a 15-hour time limit, David is aiming to complete the ultramarathon in under 12 hours.
He has already surpassed £1,000 but he wants to raise even more funds so that SSAFA can continue to provide services and support to the military family in Scotland.
