Cops have issued a warning to travellers as Storm Agnes prepares to sweep across the country.

A yellow weather warning for high winds and heavy rain has been issued across much of Scotland, with inland winds of up to 60mph expected from 12pm on Wednesday until 7am on Thursday.

Police Scotland has urged people to 'plan ahead' in case adverse weather affects their travel.

A spokesperson said: "Yellow weather warnings are in place for wind and rain across parts of Scotland.

"Drivers should plan ahead and ensure you have sufficient fuel, warm clothing, food, water and a charged mobile in case of any delays.

Meanwhile, ScotRail has reminded people to secure items such as garden furniture to prevent them blowing onto nearby train tracks and causing a danger.
