A Rangers-daft singer has called the new interim manager 'one of the best' in a tribute to him.

Callum Beattie congratulated his good friend Steven Davis on his new role in the club which was announced after the sacking of Michael Beale.

The Salamander Street hitmaker, 33, shared a photo of the pair at one of his recent concerts and shared his thoughts on the appointment.

He wrote: "Absolutely delighted for you mate. One of the best people and a true professional!"

Speaking about his new job, Davis said: "I feel very honoured.

"The call came out of the blue, I certainly wasn’t expecting it. I would just like to try and repay the trust the club have shown in putting me in this position.

"Obviously it’s not a position we’d like to be in, we’re disappointed with where we’re at, at this minute in time. But I’m looking forward to the challenge."

Davis' interim management coaching team includes former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae, former Gers player and current coach Steven Smith, coach Brian Gilmour and goalkeeping coach Colin Stewart.

Meanwhile, Beale, who was sacked after 10 months in charge of the Ibrox side, voiced his support for Davis.

In a heartfelt goodbye post shared on his social media channels, he said: "Now is the time for everyone to unite fully behind Steven Davis and the team in the coming games.

"There is still so much to play for this season and I have a strong belief in this group of players. Thank you and good luck. MB."
