A once derelict building overlooking George Square has been transformed into a stunning new social darts venue that is set to open this Friday (October 6).

The former tax office has been completely overhauled to become the first Scottish location of Flight Club Darts, an award-winning bar concept that has "reinvented darts for the 21st century".

Juliette Keyte, marketing director at Flight Club, said that opening their first Scottish location in Glasgow felt like a "natural fit".

She said: "Glasgow has such an amazing nightlife and great hospitality scene and we really wanted to be a part of it.

"We think we can offer something new and hopefully it will resonate with everyone.

"It's not just about social darts, it's about coming for drinks for friends or brunch at the weekend. We can do big team company socials as well.

"There is always something popping up in Glasgow and that is something we want to be a part of."

Flight Club signed the lease on the grade two listed building at the corner of George Street and North Frederick Street six years ago.

The team has worked to bring back historical features of the unit like the detailed cornice and coving.

I was treated to a first look inside the venue and the level of thought and detail that has gone into it is impressive.

Juliette said: "It was really important to us to preserve the heritage of the building - embracing the history but also bringing it to life in a new way."

Everything from gaming to interior design is done by an in-house team and every Flight Club is different.

To fill the enormous new Glasgow bar, the design team double-stacked the brand's signature ring lights (which move with the music) to elevate the space.

Each nook and cranny has a new treat for the eye from reimagined oil paintings to fairground signs.

Inspired by the heritage of darts and the eccentric feel of a fairground, the bar is kitted out with leather banquette seating, wooden details, flashing lights, and an animatronic Ferris wheel.

Juliette said: "Our dressing production team spent months scouring antique fairs around the country to find all the trinkets, frames, and paintings that line the walls.

"It's a labour of love, there's so much care and detail that goes into our venues and it's something we really pride ourselves on."

After hitting the bullseye in a trial run at one of the oches, I can't wait to return with more players for a bit of friendly competition.

Flight Club Glasgow will have 15 oches and serve food like pizzas and sharing plates to accompany an extensive cocktail list.

Social Darts is £10 per person for 60 minutes, or £13 per person for 90 minutes and the venue can accommodate up to 325 punters.

Bookings are live ahead of the grand opening on October 6 - and Christmas bookings are available now.
