A group of thugs from Motherwell are said to have attacked a man in a village almost 50 miles away.

The 26-year-old victim was set upon in the early hours of Sunday morning in Dunoon, Argyll and Bute.

He was approached by three suspects at the junction of Argyll Street and Moir Street at around 2.15am.

After the shocking attack by the trio, the man was left with multiple serious injuries and taken to Inverclyde Hospital to be treated.

Cops have since launched an investigation and they have determined that the three men are from Motherwell.

They have also released descriptions, but no images, and are urging any witnesses to the attack to get in touch.

One man is described as being approximately 5ft 6in tall, of heavy build, with short black hair and black facial hair, and he was dressed in all black with brown shoes.

The second was around 6ft 1in tall, of medium build with short black hair, clean shaven and was also dressed all in black.

Finally, the third man was approximately 5ft 10in tall, of slim build, with short black hair and stubble, and wearing a blue jumper and blue jeans.

Detective Constable Ross Hardie, of Dunoon Police Station, said: “We know that there were a number of people on Moir Street at the time of this attack and we would be keen to to speak to anyone who has not yet spoken to police.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or may have footage is asked to come forward.

“Enquiries so far suggest that the men may have been from the Motherwell area so anyone who recognises them or who may know who they are is asked to get in touch.
