A NEW hub has been launched to help support the community in Coatbridge and beyond.

The Hub was created to offer a helping hand to those who are having difficulty affording life essentials like food and heating and will allow local people to gather, relax somewhere warm and get a light bite to eat.

Developed and launched by Manorview, an independent Scottish hospitality group that also owns the neighbouring Innishmohr, The Hub is now being operated by their registered charity Manorview Foundation.

Services delivered at the Main Street property will be free of charge.

Robert McHarg, who runs Manorview Foundation, said: "We know times are tough.

"The cost of living is on the rise, and we know that there will be people choosing between heating and eating.

"We want The Hub to be there for the people of Coatbridge.

"We’ve got cosy areas, TVs, games for the kids, books, and iPads.

"We’ll be serving hot drinks, snacks, and soup while we’re open. And we just really hope to be able to help."

Glasgow Times: The Hub opened for the first time this week as a holiday club, welcoming local children to play games, do arts and crafts, watch movies and get their breakfast and lunch.

They were the first to enjoy the lounge area which has books and TVs, an iPad station and an entertainment section with an Xbox, Playstation and movies.

There is also a cafe-like area to sit and have a hot drink or bowl of soup.

Glasgow Times: Robert continued: "We’ve worked hard to create a nice, homely space.

"The team at Manorview used their experience of designing function spaces and restaurants to make it feel warm and welcoming.

"And to the people of Coatbridge – if you need us, we’re here.

"Please come along. You’re welcome to pop along any time we’re open – even if you just want to see the space we’ve created.

“We’ve had some interest from fellow charities who hope to use the hub to support the great work they are doing.

"For example, we have a school uniform supplier who will help source uniforms privately and discreetly if parents are finding it hard to pay for one. So if you think we can work together – please, reach out."

Glasgow Times:

Councillor Geraldine Woods, from North Lanarkshire Council, visited The Hub to see the space in action.

She said: "I was absolutely delighted to attend the Manorview Foundation Hub and see first-hand their fantastic programme to come together with the local community and provide a safe and welcoming environment for all residents and children.

"We all know the difficult situation residents find themselves in during this cost-of-living crisis and families trying to survive on a daily basis.

"I firmly believe that initiatives like this being provided by the Manorview Foundation can go a long way to help the wellbeing and mental health of our community and should be welcomed with open arms and I encourage all organisations and local community groups to take advantage of this fantastic facility.

"I would also like to thank the Manorview Foundation for providing a local Coatbridge charity group Cool School Uniforms with accommodation within their premises, which allows them to continue their amazing work."

The Hub is located at 144-146 Main Street and from Monday, October 23 will be open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12pm to 4pm.
