A teenage thug brutally stabbed two men outside a nightclub after hiding a knife nearby.

Liam Sullivan did not know his victims until an incident saw him kicked out of Sanctuary in Glasgow's Partick in the early hours of New Year's Day 2023.

The now 18-year-old appeared to wait for Nathan Gray and Max White before attacking them.

A judge heard how Mr Gray would have died, but for emergency medical help.

Sullivan on Thursday admitted assaulting both men to their severe injury and permanent disfigurement. Prosecutors stated it was also to the danger of Mr Gray's life.

The teenager was remanded in custody and will be sentenced next month.

Prosecutor James Irvine told the High Court in Glasgow how Sullivan had been clocked hiding an "item" in a nearby street before going into the club with a friend.

The two victims were also in Sanctuary to celebrate the New Year.

Mr Irvine: "They were not known to Sullivan and had not been in his company."

Sullivan later ended up being ejected from the west-end club.

The prosecutor: "He was then seen in (nearby street) retrieving a knife before returning to outside Sanctuary where he met his friend."

The two victims also left around this time before Sullivan pounced.

Both men were struck with the blade - Mr Gray twice.

As Sullivan ran off, Mr White was helped by staff back into the club, but Mr Gray collapsed in the street.

A passing ambulance was flagged down and the victims rushed to hospital.

Mr Gray's injuries included a collapsed lung. Medics had initial serious fears about his condition, but he was helped by having emergency surgery.

Mr Irvine: "Without medical intervention, he would have been unlikely to have survived."

Mr White meantime needed 10 stitches for a knife wound.

Sullivan was arrested a week later, but made no comment.

Graeme Brown, defending, said: "He was 17 at the time, but is now 18."

Lady Stacey deferred sentencing until next month.

The judge told Sullivan: "You have pleaded guilty to serious charges.

"You will remain in custody meantime."
