A planning application has been submitted to South Lanarkshire Council to extend weekend markets at Chatelherault Country Park.
Planners are seeking to extend the events at the venue for a further three years; temporary consent was granted but due to expire on December 31.
The plan is to have 80 market stalls at the country park every Saturday, Sunday and public and bank holidays until December 31, 2026.
Planners have stated that the market has operated at Chatelherault for a number of years with no adverse impact to the Green Belt, the historic garden and designated landscape or the Grade A listed building.
The market stalls are predominantly located within a section of an overflow car park which is an existing modern feature of the wider country park.
In the supporting statement, planners wrote: ‘It is submitted that the proposals will have no significant impact on residential or visual amenity and rather will encourage visitors to the park and increase the economic viability of local businesses who are able to sell their produce from the market stalls.’
The application was received by the council on October 20 and validated on October 25, the deadline for determining the application is December 24.
