A thug who brutally attacked his lover after she taped pizza to his face for a practical joke has been jailed for 25 months.

Ethan Allan, 24, lashed out at the woman at a property in Glasgow's Townhead on December 8 2022.

The woman was asked by a friend to carry out the joke on sleeping Allan and send a picture to her.

Allan was enraged after he later received the picture from the same friend.

He went on to head butt the woman to the face and accused questioned her infidelity.

Allan pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to engaging in a course of behaviour which was abuse of a partner or ex-partner.

The court heard that the pair were in a relationship for four months before Allan went to prison in September 2022.

They got back together in November 2022 but an argument took place over a week later with Allan threatening to stab her.

Allan continued to make similar threats including to kill the woman in the following few days.

On December 8, the pair were drinking together when Allan fell asleep.

Prosecutor Darren Harty said: "The woman had been texting a friend who suggested gluing something to Allan's face and taking a picture.

"The woman sellotaped a piece of pizza to his face and took a picture, sending it to her friend.

"The friend in turn sent it on to Allan who saw it when he woke up and became agitated."

Allan went on to threaten the woman which included to "volley her right in the teeth."

Mr Harty added: "He then stood up and head butted her on the face."

Allan went on to punch the TV which caused it to break and kicked the bedside table.

He also shouted at the woman and accused her of seeing other men.

Allan threw bottles around the property on New Years Eve after which the woman called him a "beast."

They argued three days later with Allan again throwing bottles and accused the woman of scratching his hand.

Mr Harty said: "He then punched her on the face, breaking two front teeth."

Allan later apologised to the hysterical victim and stated that it was just a reflex.

Allan criticised the way the woman dressed in front of his friends two days later and told her to change.

He also told her to cover up with a blanket and ordered her to go to the bathroom with him each time he went as not to leave her alone with his friends.

Allan found prescription medication for the woman's anxiety which he then withheld from her.

Mr Harty said: "She felt that he was withholding this knowing that she would rely on him more when her anxiety was worse."

Harvie Diamond, defending, told the court: "He took exception to the pizza being glued to his face.

"It is quite an insulting thing to do but it does not excuse why he acted in the way he did and takes responsibility for that."

A five-year non-harassment order was imposed restricting Allan's contact with the woman upon his release from prison.
