Rangers have announced the sad passing of the Club Chaplain Reverend Stuart MacQuarrie following an illness.

The Reverend had served the Ibrox club for over 30 years and was a popular figure with those at Rangers.

He regularly attended first-team and academy matches where he provided guidance and support to both playing and non-playing staff.

In a statement released by the club, they said that Reverend MacQuarrie would "lead the Rangers family" in "solemn reflection" in times of loss and reflection.

The club also commended the minister for his knowledge of the club, along with IRS history and traditions when in the role, something that they said "came to the fore in those difficult moments".

The Easterhouse-born minister was also the chaplain at the University of Glasgow where he spent 19 years in the role before retiring in 2020.

Rangers chairman, John Bennett, said: “Myself and all the staff at Rangers are so very saddened to hear this news.

"From when I first became a director of the club, I developed a very warm relationship with Stuart, and I, like so many others before and present, greatly valued his company, his counsel and his friendship.

“Stuart will be greatly missed by all at the club, and our thoughts are with his family and his many friends at this sad and difficult time.”
