A young Glasgow man kicked off at his family when they didn't give him money and shouted at police officers.

Steven Corner, 20, arrived at a home on Elibank Street, Ruchhazie, at 2.30pm on October 31, where members of his family were gathered.

He appeared drunk and was asking for money, which they were unable to give him.

After hearing this, he became aggravated and began swearing and shouting.

Outside the property, he continued this behaviour and a neighbour saw him throwing several punches towards two family members.

Corner, of Springboig, also threw an item towards a car, smashing the window.

One relative was scared for her safety and the police were called.

Corner left, then returned to get his jacket. He continued to shout and swear and he said he was not leaving without getting money.

Police arrived around 3pm and he was arrested and taken to the police station.

While walking there, he lunged towards a stranger on the street and tried to kick her. Police officers had to pull her away.

He said to cops: “You f*****g baldy b*****d”, “you f*****g smelly dirty rats”, “I’m not scared of police, I have got more charges than you have had dinners”, “just wait and see what happens when I get out”.

He also  went on to say: “I have just been to the court today, I am not scared, I will be out by tomorrow and get my bottle”, “it's Steven with a ‘v’ not a ‘ph’, I am not f*****g Catholic, I’m Protestant”.

Corner also told an officer:  “Go back to America, you f*****g cow”, “dirty lesbian cow”.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week, after he pleaded guilty to assault, behaving aggressively and trying to punch two people, while on bail.

Sheriff Owen Mullan said: “This is horrific, you threatened your family, you were sectarian, abusive of sexual orientation.

"Help me with the options because the most obvious thing for me to do is send him to jail. I’m at my wits end with this man."

His lawyer said: "There seems to be some misunderstanding. He attended a family gathering, and an argument broke out and his way of handling the conflict is appalling. He accepts full responsibility. He accepts that he needs to get better at dealing with confrontation."

Sheriff Mullan noted that in the reports Corner said he is not willing to do unpaid work or be tagged. Papers also noted he is “unremorseful and lacking empathy”.

The lawyer said: "It might be part of his immaturity.

"He understands the impact of his actions. He already paid £300 to repair the damage he caused. He has a lengthy record."

He also said Corner advised him that he would now accept unpaid work or a restriction of liberty order.

The sheriff said to him: "This is horrific. You were trying to assault members of the public and police officers. You made threats to your own family.

"You do not appear remorseful or sorry. I am an inch away from saying 'let’s send him away'.

"I will refer you to the youth court. Cooperate with the reports. If you do not and they ask me to send you to jail, then that’s what will happen."

Sentence was adjourned to obtain a youth court assessment.
