Along with the characters appearing, and in true festive fashion, Santa also stopped by and there was cookie decorating.

Les Hoey, Laura Cochrane and Angela Cook at the DreamMaker Foundation thanked those at Hamilton Racecourse for making the event possible and they "really have the best supporters".

A spokesperson for the charity said: "What a Day at our DreamMaker Christmas Grotto Event.

"Our DreamMaker families were treated to magical unicorns, beautiful princesses, and our pals from Frozen, before enjoying the fun of all the different stations where they decorated cookies, made their own soft toys and more.

"They also wrote letters to Santa before meeting the big guy himself and getting some fab gifts, books and selection boxes.

"Thanks to all our DreamMaker Families that came along and joined in the fun, we are so happy that you had a great day with us."
