A MAN injured his brother after striking him on the head with a pipe.
Joseph Smith, 23, turned on Patrick Smith, 25, in Glasgow’s Gorbals on June 30 2023.
The city’s Sheriff Court heard that Joseph and his girlfriend travelled from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, to Glasgow to meet Patrick.
There came a point when Patrick and Joseph’s partner were walked along Ballater Street together.
The pair “bumped into” Joseph and an argument took place between the brothers.
Prosecutor Monique Cooney said: “Joseph took a pipe and hit Patrick on the head.
“He had an injury to the side of his face which was one inch in length.
“Patrick also struck Joseph and the woman had to get in between them to stop them.”
Patrick contacted the police meantime but Joseph, of Kilmarnock, had left the scene before officers arrived.
Patrick said: “My brother Joseph just cracked me on the head with a pipe - I’m saying nothing.”
Police later traced Joseph to a sports shop in the city centre where he was arrested.
Joseph told officers: “I’m the one that’s been assaulted, he done this to my face. He hit my bird as well.”
Joseph’s lawyer told the sentencing that the brothers have had difficulties in the past.
Sheriff Owen Mullan ordered Joseph to do 90 hours of unpaid work and put him under supervision for 18 months.
