A group of Celtic fans are set to fly out to the other side of the world to help build new classrooms for disadvantaged children.

The Celtic FC Foundation, the Parkhead club's in-house charity, will be visiting the country next year to help build the learning rooms.

Volunteers will be part of a construction team who will build a block containing two classrooms.

The charity foundation last took a trip overseas in 2019 where they visited Zambia with several volunteers having helped transform buildings into classrooms.

However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, they were forced to postpone future trips.

Now, three years later, participants will be returning to the African continent once again with volunteers set to spend eight days in Malawi.

During that time they will provide practical support on the ground as they work in partnership with Classrooms for Malawi on an exciting new project.

Classrooms for Malawi is a Scottish-based charitable organisation whose mission is to alleviate poverty through education.

They look to improve places of education throughout Malawi so that children can go to school in safe, dynamic learning environments.

And thanks to funds raised previously by the Celtic FC Foundation, they will support Classrooms for Malawi in their goal at Masalani Community Day Secondary School in the Chiradzulu district, in the southern region of Malawi.

The school, which also previously benefited from support from the Foundation back in 2018, has only four classrooms but requires at least six to cater for the range of secondary school subjects.

Whilst in Malawi, there will also be an opportunity for the group of volunteers to visit some of the kitchens built as part of the 67 Kitchens project, which was delivered in partnership with Mary’s Meals thanks to funds raised by the club's Lions Legacy campaign in 2017.

The charity have confirmed that people who would like to volunteer can still register their interest.

Each volunteer will be tasked with raising £2,000 to cover the cost of the trip, with a £250 deposit required to confirm each place, as well as a minimum of £1,000 as a charitable contribution to Celtic FC Foundation.
