A new guide to help people combat the stress of the festive season has been released by North Lanarkshire Council.

The local authority's Winter Well booklet gives advice on how to manage debt, stress and loneliness.

It also offers support for locals experiencing anxiety, low mood, or depression during the Christmas season.

Produced in partnership with NHS Lanarkshire, the guide will be available to collect at sports centres, hospitals and health centres across the area.

The booklet also includes contact details for emergency services, financial and benefits helplines, stress control advice and domestic abuse support.

Louise Roarty, Depute Leader of North Lanarkshire Council, said: "The festive period and winter months can be very stressful for some people, especially for those who may suffer from poor mental health or financial worries and for people feeling lonely.

"If you're worried about someone, asking them directly about their feelings can make such a difference."

There is also a section dedicated to giving advice on how to stay active throughout the dark months such as the Get Walking Lanarkshire weekly health walks and free activities to do for all the family.

The Depute Leader added: "Our 'Winter Well' guide provides practical advice for people who may need it, and hopefully, it will help alleviate some of the stress during the holiday period for those feeling under pressure."
