Hundreds of people were forced to queue outside Glasgow Central Station in the wake of disruption caused by Storm Gerrit.

Most of the commuters are believed to be waiting for Avanti West Coast Services between Glasgow and London that have been cancelled.

One user wrote on social media: "@AvantiWestCoast you have cancelled trains and now telling us to join the queue which is so long it goes OUTSIDE.

"How is that customer care? We pay over the odds for a crap service.

"My brother has had problems every time he has visited Glasgow to Preston."

They added: "It's carnage at Glasgow Central. @AvantiWestCoast are cancelling trains and then telling people to queue outside."

"@AvantiWestCoast hi there, is there an update on the Glasgow to Euston trains? We are queuing outside with no update," another commuter said.

An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to our customers affected by the cancellations and delays at Glasgow Central following the disruption caused by Storm Gerrit.

"We would like to thank our customers for their patience and remind them if they’re delayed by 15 minutes or more to claim delay repay compensation.

"Any customers making journeys between Glasgow and London today (28 December) are strongly advised to check before they travel.”

They added: "The queues are a result of delays and cancellations following disruption caused by Storm Gerrit.

"Customers with tickets dated December 27 between Preston and Edinburgh/Glasgow can be used today (December 28) or tomorrow (Friday, December 29).

"If your train is cancelled, you can claim a full fee-free refund from their point of purchase."
