A MAN kicked off at police after they stopped to help with his car.

Ahmed Abrar, 28, was spotted by officers on Newton Street in the city centre just before 3pm on November 29.

Cops on patrol saw that a car had broken down, and a woman coming out of the vehicle and removing her children.

Two officers observed the woman, who was upset.

They also noticed Abrar, next to the car. He appeared intoxicated.

After approaching him, police could smell alcohol and requested him to take a breath test but he refused to blow into the device.

Abrar, of Parkhouse, North Glasgow, was abusive towards cops. He shouted and swore at them. He was warned. Phrases like “f**k off” were used.

He was arrested. During this, he struggled violently with officers.

He was handcuffed but he continued to lash out with his legs. He tried to kick the cops but made no contact.

Around 4.30pm, he was again asked to provide two samples of breath at the police station, which he did not.

He was held in custody, cautioned and charged. He made no reply.

He pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening manner, failing to cooperate with a breath test, lashing out at cops and resisting arrest.

Speaking at a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week, Abrar's lawyer said: "He is 28 years old, he accepts the fact that he endangered his wife and children.

"His family moved to Birmingham temporarily and this made him seek help.

"He is being referred to social work. He sees this as a necessity, he also lost his job. But he has always been a working man. He has one drink driving matter outstanding."

Sheriff Iain Fleming sentenced Abrar to 280 hours of unpaid work and gave him 10 points on his license. He was disqualified from driving for six months.
