A serial criminal lashed out at police after they caught him in possession with a knife.

James Livingston, 36, was snared with the blade in Glasgow's Shawlands on September 15 2023.

Police had reason to stop and search Livingston.

Fiscal Mark Allan told Glasgow Sheriff Court: "Officers recovered from his right hand trouser pocket a lock back knife.

"In the aftermath of his arrest, he spat in the direction of PC Charlotte MacLeod.

"As PC Euan Bennie was placing handcuffs on him, he bent forward and made an attempt to bite him on the hand.

"He then attempted to bite PC Andrew Murdoch on the head."

Livingston was initially taken to a hospital to be checked over as he was in and out of consciousness.

He was later deemed fit to be released from hospital into custody.

Livingston pleaded guilty to three charges of assault as well as having a knife in a public place without a reasonable or lawful authority.

It was revealed that Livingston has eight previous convictions for knives or weapons and 23 earlier crimes involving police officers.

Sentence was deferred pending background reports by Sheriff Gerard Considine until later this month.
