An elderly woman is fighting for her life following a horror smash in Paisley.

The 77-year-old was driving her silver Nissan Micra on Barnsford Road on Tuesday evening.

She collided with a white Kia Rio at around 5pm.

999 crews raced to the scene and both the woman and the Kia driver, a 39-year-old woman, were taken to hospital.

Medics describe the elderly woman as being in a 'critical' condition.

They closed the road for around four hours before reopening at around 9.10am.

In particular, the force is calling on any potential witnesses to get in touch if they have information which could prove vital to their investigation.

Sergeant Chris Hoggans said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash or who was in the area around the time to contact us.

“In particular, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation, please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact 101, quoting reference 2376 of January 9, 2024.
