Residents across the city warned that streets and pavements were 'like an ice rink' on Friday morning.

It comes after the city was hit by an arctic blast with temperatures plunging to -7 degrees over the past week.

Temperatures will rise today but pedestrians and drivers were still confronted with icy conditions this morning.

Taking to community groups across the city, the public warned of black ice and slippery conditions.

Glasgow Times:

One person wrote: "Just a safety message, it's like an ice rink in Oatlands this morning!

"Paths and roads are like sheets of ice. Take extra care when leaving your homes."

Another person told folks in Crookston and Pollok: "Watch going out people, roads look wet it is actually like an ice rink."

"Rain in Govan and bloody ice rink in East Kilbride," one person said.

In Paisley, one resident wrote: "Be very careful if out walking this morning.

"A lot of the pavements in Paisley are like an ice rink. Very dangerous.

"Hopefully Renfrewshire council do something about it before someone gets injured."

Another person added: "Remember to wear your skates if walking anywhere in Paisley town centre this morning everywhere is like an ice rink."

The Met Office has put a yellow snow and ice warning in place across Glasgow on Friday.

Wintry showers are set to bring disruption to transport and travel with icy patches expected on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The forecaster warned injuries could be sustained from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

Glasgow City Council has an agreed set of priorities in the event of ice or snow on road surfaces.

Top priority is given to major bus routes, junctions and emergency facility access routes.

Lowest priority is given to parks and private roads.

A statement on the council website reads: "A list of agreed precautionary treatment targets can be found in our Winter Maintenance Plan along with treatment priorities in the continued presence of snow or ice on the City's roads within normal working hours."

Grit bins are located in various areas.
