A Clydebank man caught with class-A drugs for a third time has been jailed for almost six years.

Darnel Simpson was held last October 28 after police raided his flat in West Dunbartonshire.

The 35-year-old was in bed at the time the officers turned up.

Prosecutor Neil McCulloch told the High Court in Glasgow that cocaine - with a potential value of £15,000 - as well as more than £500 in cash and other drug-related items were seized.

Simpson made no comment when later quizzed by police.

But, he today pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

Mr McCulloch told the hearing that Simpson had two previous class-A drug trafficking convictions, both from Aberdeen Sheriff Court - in 2019 and 2021.

The latter offence saw him jailed for two years.

As a result, Simpson faced a minimum seven-year sentence for this latest crime.

His lawyer Victoria Dow asked Judge Andrew Cubie not to impose the mandatory term.

But, he told Simpson: "Your offending is not low level. It is also hard on the heels of an offence in 2021.

"There are no features which mean the minimum sentence is unjust."

The judge, however, cut the seven years due to the guilty plea and reduced the term to five years and 10 months.
