A Glasgow shopping centre is to be completely revamped - here are the first images.

A planning application detailing the transformation of  Braes Shopping Centre in Castlemilk was accepted by council planning officials.

As part of phase one of the master plan, a portion of the site will now be upgraded.

This is to "create a sustainable, walkable, pleasant place where people can find affordable convenience shopping and local services close to home".

Papers state that the vacant retail units, safety concerns and lack of new tenants have put the facility at risk.

It also said, "without investment, it is considered that the shopping centre will suffer a slow and eventual demise."

Applicant Scotsman Group plans to demolish parts of the site, create a new junction, form a small business retail space, improve lighting,  landscaping and more.

Work will also be carried out to create safer routes to reach the shopping centre, with an emphasis on cyclists and pedestrians.

Overall, the company's goal is a "sustainable, affordable shopping and local services centre".

The company said Castlemilk is in need of the updated amenity as "unemployment, deprivation and social exclusion led to severe declines in both standard and quality of living" and life expectancy is one of the worst in the UK.

In 2016, the small Co-op Food supermarket shut down and the shopping centre went into administration before being taken over by the Scotsman Group.

The masterplan will also include a second phase, to be completed later.

This will focus on attracting a new food retailer to the area.
