Staff at a Glasgow casino pushed the panic button after a drunk man kicked off.

Employees at Grosvenor Casino on Glassford Street were made aware of Brendon O’Rouke causing a disturbance just before 6am on December 19, 2022.

He approached one worker and said: "What has he been saying about me?".

The 38-year-old then smashed a glass.

At a hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week, a not-guilty plea was accepted to a charge of brandishing a shard of glass as a weapon.

A worker was scared and pressed the panic button.

O’Rouke went outside and was confrontational with staff.

Police arrived and he was apprehended and taken to the other side of the road.

He grabbed the hands of two cops and dug his nails forcefully into them, causing injuries.

O’Rouke himself also sustained injuries.

He refused arrest and resisted handcuffs. Police took out their baton. Handcuffs were applied.

He was arrested and taken to Helen Street police station.

His lawyer said: "At this time, he was working in the North of Scotland and he was travelling back to Carlisle.

"The weather was bad and he found himself in Glasgow. He knows it was a bad decision to start drinking.

"He has little recollection but he fully accepts his behaviour.

"He has moved to London since then. He is currently subject to a curfew there. He has been complying with that. He was subject to an unpaid work order.

"He has issues with alcohol and he has been engaging with an organisation sporadically. He has also been going to AA meetings. He lost his job after this incident and he has not been back to work but he is looking forward to going back to it, as a plasterer."

Sheriff Joan Kerr said: "Your conduct was extremely serious."

O'Rouke was sentenced to a community payback order with a restriction of movement requirement.

The ruling will be transferred to his home in England, where he will have to stay indoors every day between 8pm and 5.30am for eight months.
