A drunk man shouted "heil Hitler" and did Nazi salutes at Glasgow's Queen's Park.

Anthony Hutton, 32, was seen drunk and stumbling around at 5pm at the Southside green area on May 13, 2023.

Others there heard him shouting “f**k n****rs” and “heil Hitler” but not to anyone in particular.

He also made Nazi salutes.

Then, Hutton grabbed a glass bottle and pretended to throw it, but he didn’t.

It was reported to police, who arrived and tracked him down.

Officers noted that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Shawlands man was arrested and continued to act aggressively.

As he was taken to London Road police station, he continued to shout and swear.

He said: “I’m going to murder one of you c**ts”.

He was taken to the holding cell area.

Hutton kicked one of the police officers so fast straps were applied.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week after he pleaded guilty to shouting racially aggravated insults.

He also admitted banging his head against the wall of the police van on the way to the station and kicking the door.

His lawyer said at the hearing: "This was quite atrocious conduct.

"It is the first time he has engaged in this behaviour.

"Clearly, the custody threshold has been met in this case.

"He has been on heavy medication to treat his mental health. One thing he should not be doing is mixing it with alcohol. He did that on this occasion and his behaviour was in atrocious fashion.

"He has appeared in court with regret. It is a classic Jekyll and Hyde situation. He knows what the issue is and he knows he needs to be addressing it."

Sheriff Joan Kerr said to Hutton: "Your lawyer has been right in saying your conduct was absolutely atrocious.

"However, the writer of the report is sympathetic to you, perhaps due to your mental health or the bereavement you have suffered.

"If you take care of your mental health and tackle your relationship with alcohol, your life will change for the better."

He was sentenced to 18 months supervision and 115 hours of unpaid work.
