A Glasgow man grabbed a baton after he was assaulted by a group of youths.

Stephen Gordon, 35, was walking on Anniesland Road on December 2, 2022.

He got into an argument with a group of youths, aged around 13 and 15. As a result of this, he was assaulted.

Gordon returned home - where he retrieved a baton.

The youths then turned up outside.

Gordon approached the group and brandished the baton towards them.

A passer-by saw this from a car.

Gordon followed the group while brandishing the baton.

Police were called by the driver, Gordon went inside and the group scattered.

One youngster shouted and gestured at the Jordanhill man, who brandished the baton again. The child ran away.

Police searched the area when they were made aware of a phone call by Gordon to report the earlier assault.

He said he tried to defend himself with the weapon.

Police went to his home and he said he did not need medical attention. His front tooth was missing and he had swelling to his face.

He was cautioned and charged.

He appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court last week after he pleaded guilty to branding the baton.

His lawyer said: "He was assaulted and made his way home.

"The youths followed him home and were outside his home, acting in a threatening manner.

"He was not armed at first. He was afraid of what might occur. His intention was to de-escalate the situation and remove the individuals.

"He has a significant record. He accepts this is a serious matter.

"His alcohol consumption appears to be reduced now."

Sheriff Joan Kerr said to Gordon: "I deal with this matter in the context your solicitor told it. The seriousness is because of what I see in your previous convictions."

He was sentenced to 12 months of supervision.
