Emergency crews are battling a building fire on a busy road in East Kilbride.

Police have said 999 teams are currently dealing with a blaze in a disused building in the Glen Road area of the town.

Originally, officers were alerted to the fire shortly after 6am this morning - Tuesday, March 19.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service also confirmed they are in attendance at the incident.

In total, four fire trucks were sent to the scene where firefighters are currently working to tackle the fire.

Now, officers are urging local residents in the area to keep their windows and doors closed.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Residents in the Glen Road area of East Kilbride are urged to keep windows and doors closed due to a fire in a disused building.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 5.23am on Tuesday, March 19, to reports of a fire within an unoccupied building on Glen Road, East Kilbride.

“Operations control mobilised four appliances to the scene of the fire.

“There are no reported casualties and crews remain in attendance.”

"Officers were made aware around 6.20am and emergency services are at the scene."
