A BUS operator has revealed a major update for several of its Glasgow services.

Scottish Citylink has announced the launch of its summer timetable – which includes more direct services and higher service frequency across Scotland.

The summer timetable, which is in place between March and September, delivers a "host of extra services and additional journeys".

As part of it, around 10,000 extra seats per week are available across the bus operator's network.

Highlights of the new timetable include:

  • A new direct journey between Glasgow and Fort William each day – taking the number of daily round trips to nine.
  • An extra daily round trip between Inverness and Fort William – resulting in an hourly service on that route during summer.
  • Double the number of services between Glasgow and Edinburgh to Dundee and Aberdeen running from Thursday to Sunday.
  • Doubling of direct services between Edinburgh and Inverness.

On top of that, customers travelling from Glasgow will benefit from up to four coaches per hour to Perth as well as express services to Dundee and Aberdeen up to every half hour.

There are also more journeys between Glasgow and Inverness.

Meanwhile, passengers travelling from Dundee will benefit from a service to Aberdeen up to every 15 minutes, with services between Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow now operating up to half-hourly.

Those travelling from Aberdeen will enjoy services every 30 minutes to Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as up to a 15-minute frequency on routes to Dundee.

Additionally, punters travelling from Perth will benefit from an increased number of journeys to Inverness and Pitlochry, with services operating up to two per hour on peak days.

Express services from Perth to Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen are also being enhanced to half-hourly on peak days.

And those travelling from Inverness now have a more simplified timetable with hourly services to Edinburgh and additional services to Glasgow.

On Citylink’s routes on the West Coast of Scotland, the new timetable increases the number of services between key locations, resulting in the below total number of daily trips available:

  • Glasgow - Fort William 9 round trips per day
  • Glasgow - Oban 5 round trips per day
  • Glasgow - Campbeltown 5 round trips per day
  • Edinburgh - Fort William daily
  • Edinburgh - Oban daily
  • Inverness - Fort William hourly
  • Inverness - Skye 4 round trips per day.

On top of that, the travel firm has added an additional late evening journey on its 900 service at 11.30pm from Glasgow to Edinburgh.

Scottish Citylink managing director Simone Smith said: “It’s always an exciting time when we introduce our summer timetable, as it’s such a great time of year, and we love playing a part in people’s plans over the summer.

“This year we’ve really focused on increasing the number of direct journeys so that it’s easier than ever for people to get straight to their destination, with less connections needed.

"We’re one of the country’s longest-standing and most-trusted coach operators and we’re still making continuous improvements for our customers to make sure that their travel is as enjoyable and seamless as possible.

“There are so many lovely places to visit in Scotland and coach travel is a simple, enjoyable and affordable way to get around, so we look forward to welcoming even more customers on to our services this summer.”
