A man has been arrested after a 'spate of incidents' in Greenock.

Officers say between 10pm on Monday, March 25 and 7am on Tuesday, March 26, they received reports of three motors being 'deliberately set on fire, one stolen car, and items having been stolen from insecure vehicles' in the West End and Bow areas of the town.

Detectives say the incidents took place on Paton Street, Tasker Street, Forsyth Street, Robertson Street, Brisbane Street and South Street.

A 24-year-old man has since been arrested and charged in connection.

He was due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Tuesday, March 26.

Meanwhile, officers say enquiries are currently ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incidents.

Police are also looking to track down a second man who was seen in the area.

Detective Constable Ruth Elder said: “We are appealing for anyone in the west end or Bow areas of Greenock who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the early hours of Tuesday morning to please get in touch.

“In particular we would like to hear from people with private CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage which could be of significance to our investigation.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0424 of Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
