MANAGEMENT at a newly-opened Glasgow bar is thrilled to be the latest addition to a bustling LGBTQ+ scene.

The Corset Club has opened its doors on Virginia Street, next to long established venues such as Polo and Delmonica's.

The founder, Callum Raymond, said his vision is for an inclusive, entertainment-focused space that enriches what Merchant City has to offer for queer people and their allies.

He said: "I frequented these places growing up and this venture comes from a place of admiration that I have always had.

"We are a cocktail lounge and show bar, serving some pizzas as well.

“We have entertainment seven nights a week.

“My whole concept was to add to the vibrant community that exists here and to be part of it."

With colourful performances every night, including drag shows, live music, cabaret and comedy, The Corset Club aims to showcase homegrown talent.

Skinny Minnie, lead host drag queen and events manager, said: "I can’t put into words how excited I am about this.

“This is what I have been waiting for and working towards in my career ever since I started.

“I have done many jobs that were not creatively fulfilling, for audiences who have never seen drag before but this is an environment where people are here for queer entertainment and exactly what I am here to deliver.

“It feels amazing.

“And for the other role, it is incredibly fulfilling to have the skill I accumulated through doing drag translate into a position for Andrew, not just Skinny.

“It means I am worth more to a venue than my ability to do a death drop."

To ensure everyone is welcome, the bar serves hot drinks and pizza during the day and transforms into a hotspot in the late hours selling drinks and bar snacks - including toast and butter.

Along with cocktails and shows, the spot will also host more relaxed and alcohol-free events, emphasising its message of inclusivity.

Callum said: “We have lots coming up on this aspect, we will soon be introducing sober afternoon teas, so we are still reaching out to people who don’t drink alcohol.

“You are visible and we are creating a space for you as well!

“In the daylight, we have a chilled-out environment, perfect for a wee cocktail or two or even to pop in and grab a coffee."

The exciting new venue is open from 4pm between Monday and Friday and from 11am every weekend.
