A huge police presence was spotted near Braehead following a car chase yesterday.

Officers say they tried to stop a motor on the M74 near Junction 1 at around 3pm on Monday, April 1.

Road cops say they tried to stop the car in connection with suspected road traffic offences.

However, the driver then fled leading police on a chase.

Following that, the car then crashed in the Kings Inch Road area of Renfrew - where the motorists then fled the scene.

During the ordeal, residents took to social media to report there was a huge police presence in the area.

One described it as being "carnage", while others said police dog units and a helicopter were in attendance at the scene.

Now, police have said an investigation into the incident is underway.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 3pm on Monday, April 1, 2024, police attempted to stop a car on the M74 near Junction 1, in connection with suspected road traffic offences.

"A pursuit took place, which came to an end when the car crashed in the Kings Inch Road area of Renfrew.

"Extensive searches were carried out, but the driver had fled from the scene.

"Enquiries remain ongoing.”
