A RANGERS fan was banned from attending football games for a year after a large-scale League Cup semi-final disorder.

On February 26 last year, hundreds of fans clashed outside Hampden Stadium before the Light Blues faced Celtic.

Around 8.47am, Daro Twiddy was part of a large group waiting to be let in the venue to put up fan displays.

He was seen on CCTV running towards a group of Celtic supporters.

Twiddy, 24, pushed past police officers to continue to charge at the crowd.

He clashed with them before being separated by cops.

He then ran towards the large group again and was pushed away by officers.

After this, he was seen passing a road sign and engaging in a stand-up fight with a man, who was a Celtic fan.

He was later spotted with his head down, rubbing it and looking at his hand as if checking for an injury.

On March 29 last year, he attended Cathcart police station, where he was arrested and charged.

Twiddy, of Parkhead, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week after he pleaded guilty to behaving aggressively with others as part of a large-scale disorder.

He admitted shouting, swearing and fighting.

The Crown was seeking a football banning order.

Twiddy's lawyer said: “This was many hours before kick-off. They all were there legitimately, by invitation.

“He did not go there expecting trouble.

“He understands he should not have dealt with it the way he did.

“He and a few others acted responsibly [by attending the police station].

“He has no prior convictions."

In response to the Crown's request, the lawyer said: “There is no need for a football banning order. He accepts he should not have dealt with this the way he did.

“He was expecting to arrive at an empty Hampden Park.

“He has effectively been on good behaviour for 14 months."

Sheriff Owen Mullan said: “This is large-scale football violence.”

Twiddy was fined for £720 plus a £40 surcharge and a football banning order was granted.

He is banned from attending football games in the UK for 12 months, including the national team's fixtures.

He also cannot attend matches played by UK teams abroad or pubs broadcasting football.
